Coaching is not consulting, even when the invoice looks similar

Two colleagues collaborating over notes

First-time directors often ask for a coach and a consultant in the same sentence. They want a private mirror and a public intervention. Those are different contracts.

Coaching Conversations That Stick is a skill studio. The participant practises a talk they will give. We do not attend the talk unless the organisation has also engaged us as consultants. That boundary protects the person being coached from having their rehearsal used as evidence in a later review.

Consulting, in our sense, means we sit in the actual meeting and comment on the system. The Room That Decides is consulting. A Boardside Retainer is consulting. Mixing the two without saying so is how trust leaks.

If you want both, we sequence them. Coaching first, with notes that never enter the board pack. Consulting later, with notes that are designed to be filed. The fee lines stay separate so procurement can see the difference.
